Overclocking the PNY was the only downside to testing. Be it a poor contact between cooling solution and GPU or another factor, the PNY was reluctant to do Ti4600 speeds like we've seen in previous Ti4400 reviews here at Hexus and of course all around the web. It might be isolated to the review sample and a sample size of 1 is in no way indicative of performance of other PNY Ti4400's, being such an isolated sample.
The core speed was the limiting factor. The memory did 650MHz (Ti4600 speeds) without issue, stable for everything thrown at it but the core did not want to do 300MHz core at all with any stability. 286MHz was the highest core clock, a measly 11MHz over stock (275MHz) and nothing to affect performance that much on the base hardware.
Again, we must take into account that it might be a problem with the review sample and in no way indicative of overclocking performance on other PNY Ti4400's. As any good statistician will tell you, a sample size of one tells you nothing meaningful in isolation when you wish to compare against other peers.
Overall Conclusion
So what about the PNY overall? Does it compare to other Ti4400's? The answers to those questions are great and very well! The PNY was a pleasure to test with strong performance out of the box and the wonders of nView to keep things interesting. The bundle is sparse with only a single game (DroneZ) to keep you occupied if you don't have anything else.
Presentation was fine with a well designed box and quite excellent manual (and they all get examined!), one of the best I've yet seen with a graphics card.
Performance couldn't be faulted at all with the only black mark being the overclocking performance that we talked about at the start of this page.
Compared to other Ti4400's it's strong and should be on your shortlist should you find it. The price should also be great given the cooling and bundle. It doesn't quite replace the MSI in my test system but that's only due to the extra features of the MSI which add to the cost.
It should be a cheap way of getting an NV25 in your system should you be able to find one.
Kudos to PNY for the card and the entire Verto range. A balsy performance for sure and again, a pleasure to test. Look for a review of their Ti4600 here at Hexus soon!
