Final thoughts and rating
As a GeForce GTX 470, Gigabyte's Super Overclock card is certainly worthy of praise.
Turning NVIDIA's hot-and-noisy design on its head, Gigabyte's custom derivative is cooler, quieter, less power hungry and, most importantly, over 10 per cent faster too.
Out the box, it's better than reference in almost every way, and the card has enough overclocking headroom to deliver performance close to that of NVIDIA's top-end GTX 480 when pushed.
It's the ultimate GeForce GTX 470, but such an accolade brings with it a heavy burden - in this case the £300 asking price.
That's an £80 premium, and though the benefits may outweigh the costs, the price tag pushes the card up into stock-clocked Radeon HD 5870 territory.
The Good
Cooler and less power hungry than reference
Excellent out-the-box performance
Further overclocking headroom
Practically silent in use
The Bad
Costs £80 more than a standard GTX 470
Basic bundle
