Conclusion

Well it was an interesting week in the graphics world last week. Whilst, at the time of writing, the only officially supported chassis for NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX SLI is the Cooler Master Stacker 830, the TJ-09 from Silverstone proves it should be on that list too.

The finish of the TJ-09 is superb, from the monstrous box to the overall look and feel; it seems SilverStone has got it spot on. In fact, and it's easy to say this now, but the TJ-09 is everything the Zalman FC-ZE1 should have been. A sleek, well-finished and ultimately understated design that functions just as good as it looks.

Many companies proclaim the benefits of the tweaks they do to their designs, and in most cases it’s a function or feature no-one will ever use or, plainly, it just doesn’t work as it should. the TJ-09 goes against the common grain, proving me wrong on many counts when it comes to the GPU cooling subsection.

When I first saw it, I did have reservations about its capability to draw in air in such a manner that cooling isn’t affected by the HDDs' heat, as well as the fact vibrations could have played a major part, considering that the center of chassis has less rigidity than its extremities. I’m happy to have be proved wrong. I'm as happy as a grumpy hack can be.

If there is one last thing to say its that under multi-GPU conditions the benefits of the system can only improve. The gap between the cards will be right in the 120mm fan’s firing line. It's such a simple system after all, but its flexibility to work in non-SLI or CrossFire systems and the cable-routing functions just add to its value even more.

If I had £200+ burning a hole in my pocket I sure as heck know the TJ-09 is worth nearly every penny. A quality chassis from practically every regard.

Having big meshed areas is useless, I've been saying it for ages(along with many others). you need the ‘wind tunnel’ effect to move the air over the hottest bits. Works well here.

I like it a lot, the front is a just a little too plain for me though, minimalism is good, but huge patches of plain black aluminium isn't that pretty. Good spot to etch something in thoughm that could be a pretty cool mod actually, I think I just changed my mind about the front.
or you could stick an LCD in the front where the second HD rack is. Its a nice case, if i had £200 lying around id be tempted to get one, lol
i completely disagree, plain burshed black alluminium looks mint. i wish it didnt have that etching on the front, spoils it.

looks well made, not too sure how effective that claimed gfx cooler is, looks pretty pap to me, also not keen on the mesh on the side aswell.

not going to be on my shopping list anyway
xrob: does the review not answer those questions? lol
Does anyone have any opinions on it having the hard drives mounted vertically rather than horizontally?

Does it still stand that this is a bad solution with regard to the drive bearings etc, or has technology moved on and this is now a moot point?
