Sony's all-in-one ambition might have dwindled since the launch of its first ever multi-touch all-in-one PC back in October 2009, but the Japanese manufacturer is hoping to breathe new life into its range with the introduction of a smaller, sleeker and presumably cheaper model dubbed the VAIO J Series.
Arriving as an alternative to the existing 24in VAIO L, the new VAIO J offers a smaller 21.5in multi-touch display with a full-HD 1080p resolution.
Retaining what Sony describes as a "loop design", there's still room beneath the display to stow your keyboard, but the system's innards have been given a revamp; it will ship with an Intel Core i3 350M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and NVIDIA GeForce 310M graphics.
That's joined by 500GB of hard-disk storage, an integrated DVD writer, a Sony Motion Eye webcam, both Wireless N and Bluetooth connectivity, and Microsoft's Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.
Sony will be bundling the system with a set of finger-friendly software solutions - including a VAIO Gate menu bar and a YouPaint drawing tool - but unlike the VAIO L, it looks as though a Blu-ray drive and TV tuner won't be available as optional extras.
Cutting down the feature list should mean a lower asking price, but whilst Sony's not giving figures just yet, we'll find out soon enough as the VAIO J Series will become available next month.
