Sony has announced a voluntary recall of thousands of AC power adapters designed for use with its all-in-one VAIO computer systems and docking stations.
According to Sony, the adapters, manufactured in China, feature interior insulation that can fail over time, posing an electrical shock hazard to consumers. Four short-circuiting incidents have already been reported, leading Sony to advise customers to "stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed".
The faulty AC power adapters are identified with model number VGP-AC19V17 and was shipped with the following hardware:
- All-in-one computers sold after September, 2007
- VGC-LT series
- VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series
- Notebook docking stations sold after September, 2005
