Dell has officially made available its Studio Hybrid range of eco-friendly desktop PCs.

The stylish system is marketed as Dell's greenest consumer desktop to date, and is said to consume 70 per cent less power than the typical desktop computer.

The Studio Hybrid is small, too, 80 per cent smaller than "most" desktop computers, says Dell. With seven interchangeable skins - Bamboo, Emerald, Quartz, Ruby, Sapphire, Slate and Topaz - it's a system that'll fit nicely into most homes.

Under its hood, you'll have a choice of Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium Dual Core or Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The latter of which will be most appealing. There's up to 4GiB of RAM available, and 320GiBs of storage. There's an optional TV tuner and Dell plans on adding Blu-ray to the options list later this year.

Prices start at £399, but opt for a Core 2 Duo CPU and more RAM than the default 1GiB, and you'll soon be creeping over the £500 mark.

They're just a touch pricey for our liking, but we are finding them to be quite sexy. We could certainly picture one of these in our living rooms, that bamboo-clad version is a stunner.

If they want to make it a little greener, they coul allow you to drop the mouse and keyboard from the package.

It's a while since I spec'ed out a Dell, good to see they have a no monitor option at last.
These would be perfect if they also came with the option of the Intel Atom as well to make it cheaper. I agree that it's way over priced.
An Atom would make it cheaper but no where near the performance.

I speced one out and didn't think it was toooo badly priced, especially for a stylish compact system.
If only you could spec tv cards, they would make perfect HTPCs, unless I missed that option!
I did read that they would have TV cards, perhaps that will be in a later model though
