Sony has announced the arrival of its highest capacity and speed CompactFlash cards today.

Available in capacities of up to 8GB and sporting blazing-fast write speeds of 300x (45MB/s), the new cards will allow UDMA-equipped digital SLR cameras to shoot away at high speeds. The cards are backed by a five-year warranty and will be available from next month.

Find out more here.

Would you buy what is likely to be an expensive Sony-branded card or stick with manufacturers - most likely cheaper - better known for flash memory?

This is going to mean speculation about Sony's future dSLRs being able to handle these cards properly :)

I wonder how this will effect the prices of other premium performance cards such as the Sandisk Extreme IV Ducati Edition?
I may be wrong but I think that these are rebadged Lexars.
Of course the real benefit to the speed is really when uploading to the PC.
And being UDMA, if you use them in a laptop with just a CF to PCMCIA adapter, it should make your whole PC crawl to a hault :)
