Just last month, Corsair extended its line of solid state drives with the introduction of its high-end Extreme Series, available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities.
However, if your wallet holds no bounds and capacity matters most, you'll be happy to hear that Corsair has now added the cherry to its Extreme Series cake in the form of the 256GB X256.
The drive, pictured above, offers the same performance credentials as the X128 we examined earlier this month, only, with twice the capacity.
Would-be buyers can therefore look forward to 64MB of cache, an Indilinx Barefoot controller and Samsung flash memory, combining to deliver stutter-free performance and read and write speeds of up to 240MB/s and 170MB/s, respectively.
As with existing Extreme Series drives, the X256 is firmware upgradeable so users can look forward to support for the TRIM command in Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system.
If you're too scared to know how much it'll cost, look away now. If not, here's the figure: £544*.
