QNAP has today announced that its entire Turbo NAS series officially supports Western Digital's 2TB Caviar Green hard drive.
The drive, dubbed the world's first 2TB 3.5in solution, will offer high-capacity configurations across QNAP's Turbo NAS range - with the mammoth eight-bay TS-809 Pro now officially supporting a maximum capacity of 16TB.
At the lower-end of the scale, QNAP's recently launched TS-219 can now provide up to 4TB of storage in a small two-bay unit. Speaking on the announcement, QNAP product manager Andy Chuo said:
"The latest 2TB Caviar Green hard drives from Western Digital consume up to 70% less power than two 1TB hard drives and are relatively quiet in operation. These hard drives are ideal for customers requiring higher capacities and the right balance of energy conservation and ensured reliability."
Whilst we're happy to see Western Digital's 2TB drive on QNAP's latest compatibility listing, it's worth noting that it carries a substantial premium and is currently priced at around Ā£250 from UK-based retailer Scan.co.uk - that's roughly the cost of three 1TB drives. Still, it's nice to have the option.
