Things tend to move quickly in the world of desktop memory, and just weeks after Kingston announced a blistering 2,400MHz DDR3 memory kit, G.Skill has followed up with an alternative that'll hit 2,500MHz.

The impressive speed is offered by a dual-channel DDR3 Trident kit, which G.Skill tells us is designed specifically for Intel Core i7 860 or 870 processors on ASUS motherboards. We reckon other-brand boards should be up to the challenge, but G.Skill tested the modules at 2,500MHz on ASUS's P7P55D-E Deluxe and P7P55D-E EVO, hence the recommendation.

Operating at the required 1.65V, G.Skill's 4GB (2x2GB) kit runs at reasonable latencies of 9-11-9-28. There's no denying the record-breaking speed, but there's no mention of pricing or availability as yet. Expect to pay a healthy premium when these bad boys filter through to retail, though.

what possible use could 2.5GHz memory have?

unless you have an i7 running at a base clock of 350MHz
oh stop it already with world's most aggressively binned memory.

give us world's cheapest memory at JDEC spec.
Less speed, more density!!
What is it lately with all these ‘we have the fastest RAM’ news items? It's not like it even makes much of a difference in real-world applications; buy standard RAM and spend the extra on a faster CPU/GPU, it will make far more of a difference! As above, stop it with the ‘we have the ever-so-slightly-fastest’ race and concentrate on making it cheaper or something!
Oh no my 1333mhz DDR3 is out of date…

Wait I minute I am currently underclocking it anyway…

Still not seen a deal to mach the Ā£21.99 per 2GB I got it at, only reason I went for 8GB really.
