Powerline and more

Netgear already has a wide selection of powerline networking adapters on offer, but its latest - the Powerline 200 AV Adapter Kit (XAVB2001) - claims to be up to 50 per cent smaller than competing solutions.

Offering speeds of up to 200Mbps, the smaller units should help prevent the adapters from blocking adjacent sockets.

What we like even more, though, is the Powerline 200 AV+ Adapter Kit (XAVB2501), which features a mains power socket on its front face to ensure you don't lose out on power points. The simple ideas really are the best.

With the company wanting to become the "heart and sould of home networks", it's also using CES as the stage on which to launch its latest network media player, the Digital Entertainer Express (EVA9100).

Priced at $249, it allows users to stream their networked media to their big-screen display without kicking up a fuss. Netgear didn't go into specific file formats or codecs, but we're told there's support for full-HD 1080p video, MP3, WAV and FLAC audio, as well as RSS feeds, Internet radio, Flickr, and on-demand video from the likes of Hulu, Netflix and BBC iPlayer. Though, the latter on-demand solutions will require the purchase of Netgear's proprietary PlayOn software.

Want more? Netgear has it. A 2TB version of the company's Stora NAS solution is on the way "soon".
