It was back in June that California-based manufacturer Belkin announced its Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit, and that very kit - promising speeds of up to 1,000Mbps - is now available in Europe priced at £129.99/ €149.99.
The Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit, pictured above, claims it to be the world's first set of Powerline Networking adapters capable of achieving speeds of up to 1,000Mbps. That's made possible by Gigle Semiconductor's mediaxtream chip - promising speeds five times quicker than the theoretical 200Mbps offered by current Powerline adapters.
Belkin claims the kit is "ideal for ultrafast high-quality transmission of multiple video streams, reducing online gaming latency and quickly transferring large data files", but admittedly warns that "data throughput and distance will be lower, depending on interference, network traffic, building materials, and other conditions."
Still, throw in a couple of Gigabit switches (Belkin recommends its own, of course) and this could be the making of an ultra-fast home network. We're itching to see how fast these really are.
