ASUS has unwrapped a new AMD powered addition to its high-end 'Republic of Gamers (ROG)' range today - the ROG Crosshair IV Formula.

Featuring 'Core Unlocker' technology - which we reported on last week - we find, as expected, an ASUS ROG looker, aimed to tease you visually with its red and black colour scheme, together with a dominating cooling solution. The onboard audio offering, courtesy of an EAX 4.0 compliant SupremeFX X-Fi solution, also has the company hoping that you'll be stimulated in more ways than just visually. Let's not forget support for SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 technologies, to satisfy that need for speed, of course.

ASUS' ROG Connect wizardry hasn't been forgotten and amidst support for AM3 Phenom II CPUs, we also find the foundations to house up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, thanks to four DIMM slots.

Another of the ASUS initiatives touted, is the company's 'GameFirst' feature which is said to enhance the solution's networking pipeline to - it is claimed - prioritise bandwidth, thereby eliminating the bane of many an online gamer.

Certainly not wanting to be seen as resting on its laurels, the Crosshair IV Formula ships with the latest version of the company's Turbo Key II 'auto tuning routine' and is enhanced by the usual mix of ASUS implementations to make overclocking experiments that little bit more accessible and interesting.

Whilst pricing hasn't been confirmed, we expect that this new member of the ASUS ROG family will probably find its comfort zone in something on the higher-end of the scale.

Fascinating stuff, but is there any reason the article doesn't mention the chipset feeding all of those features? ;)
Finally, the first black and red AMD board. If only Foxconn were here with their Quantum Force range. Now gotta wait for reviews with this board + Thuban vs the Rampage III + i7 920 as the price for those two should be roughly the same ignoring DDR3 costs.

I would like to hear some more about the 890FX chipset that does motherboard uses though.

Around Ā£165, I've got one sat next to me right now.

Will be a day or two before I use it, I'm finishing off all my Benchmarks clock for clock with 790FX then I'll do a comparison clock for clock with this 890FX.

I wonder how many review sites will bother to show what people really want to know.
Chipset is the same as the Asus M4A89GTD-Pro USB3 that was reviewed on here not too long ago - albiet without the in-built graphics but supporting PCI-ex16 x 2 - unlike the x8 crossfire only on the 890GX.

I.e. it's the 890FX and not the 890GX :)
