Zune - three-play/ three-day workaround

Over at Gizmondo, Charlie White's come up with a way to work around the share-once restriction on Microsoft's Zune media player, though - like the restriction itself - the work-around is a pain.

What Charlie says you need to do - once Zune is connected to your PC and the Zune software is running - is open the Zune's Storage folder in My Computer and,

Find the file that contains the name of the user who transferred songs to you in the file name, and delete all records with that title.

After that, the other person can transfer the same song again.

But, as Charlie points out, what's really needed is a hack that kills the three-play/three-day restriction completely.

Doh!

The work around is hardly a bit of clever hacking of the cypto, more like holding down shift when you insert a DRM infested CD in your PC.

I normally think it is a good thing when pointless DRM is cracked, but in this case the security is so weak M$ will probably put out a compulsory patch very soon, will do a proper job this time.

Dont support DRM by buying this device. They have taken it too far.

My mates geting one. Just like he got a £1500 alienware that under performs my brothers £400 self-build. Just like he got an i-pod thats only designed to last a year. They never listen. More money than sense.

its a YACSPD!, (yet another crap single purpose device)

i hate divergent crud, i will stick with my PPC (pocket PC), sure its not as small as a nano, but it means i dont have to carry around a, PSP, DMP (digital music player), GPS, video player, and alot of other things…..

and dont get me started on the crud resolution and tiny screens on those so called “video” music players
