As the summer continues to sizzle in the UK, Sony is having a few burning issues of its own.

The electronics giant issued a warning that details overheating problems potentially affecting over 500,000 VAIO F- and C-series laptops. Sony has received notification for 39 incidents of laptops overheating to the extent that the plastic shells have become warped, it is understood.

Exploring further, Sony has identified poorly-calibrated temperature sensors as the cause for overheating and is requesting that owners update their laptop's BIOSes to cure the problem. Sony provides newer BIOSes for the F-series here and the C-series here.

The majority of potentially affected laptops have been sold in Japan, but over 100,000 have been available in Europe since the turn of the year. Sony provides this page for determining whether your VAIO laptop is in the affected list.
