In a surprise move, Microsoft will hold a press conference today in Los Angeles, at 11:30pm BST. No one actually knows just what the firm will be announcing, however there's strong speculation from sources that it could be a competitor to Amazon's Kindle Fire.

Some sites have suggested that the announcement will see Microsoft release a self-built Windows RT or 8 tablet, whilst others suggest that, in fact, a tablet built alongside Barnes & Noble is tapping out - which could see the beginnings of some serious competition for Amazon. This could make sense as the two firms have been working together on 'something' officially since late April through a joint investment in the firm Newco.

Smaller titbits of information floating around suggest that the tablet may feature Xbox Streaming and/or perhaps Xbox music. Either way, Amazon would be sure to take a hit, on the music side, the firm has been rumoured to be pushing for full music rights for its Cloud Drive and Cloud Player services, to compete with the likes of Apple's iTunes Match and Samsung's Music Hub.

Of course, we could be completely wrong, Microsoft isn't letting a single word slip.
