Gigabyte show off passive X1600 Pro Crossfire
Whirring away on Gigabyte's stand, apparently entirely stable despite being in a constricted display case, is X1600 Pro Crossfire running on Pentium 4. What makes that all the more interesting is that both the boards are using Gigabyte's in-house passive cooler. Airflow in the boxes is fairly horrible, so to be running 3D on the stand in that state, with Crossfire enabled, is pretty cool. While I'm not sure the 955XE processor is one a user is likely to pair with X1600 Pro, even in Crossfire, it's an interesting demo nonetheless. Of course, the system runs without master hardware, something ATI's partners seem to be pushing quite heavily at CeBit, especially on RD580-based boards.
The mainboard is one of Giga's own, obviously, and pairs i975 with ICH7 and their innovative power regulation cooling solution around the CPU area. Nifty stuff.
