If you're an SLI aficionado and tempted by an upcoming AMD Zambezi CPU with associated 990FX or 990X platform, word has it that NVIDIA is planning to bring official SLI support to certain AMD 9-series powered mainboard solutions.

The slide below indicates that SLI support on designated AMD chipsets will be akin to that on Intel powered solutions, and will only apply to offerings from current SLI licensees.

Apparently, the 990FX chipset will be able to support either 2-way or 3-way SLI, whilst the 990X will go 2-way only.

There's no indication as to whether the 970 chipset will provide SLI support, and it's told that NVIDIA's plans don't extend to AMD's 7- and 8-series platforms.

Could be quite the potent mix of CPU/GPU at a cheapish price point.
Hmm, maybe its an ‘enemy of my enemy’ thing? You hear of Nvida being hostile towards Intel but strangely less so towards AMD…

Or because they predict Bulldozer to be big and they'd be missing out on a huge market share if consumers were forced to use AMD GPUs only.
More like. Oh crap we've pissed everyone else off. Lets try hold on to SOME market share other than the mobile world which we've somehow managed to keep intact.

Seems like someone is finally seeing some sense.
Its about time they got there collective heads out of there arses and agreed to do adding sli to amd chipsets again. So they hate AMD because of ATI but why lose out on a chance to make more money? Its to there advantage in the long and short run :)
I think they a) want to head off lucid and b) might be impressed by bulldozer. If Bulldozer becomes the go-to gaming chip and we now how good AMD CF scaling is, nvidia could have lost a lot of sales.
