Gigabyte sells both NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards. Whilst the manufacturer is waiting for stock of NVIDIA's DX11 GeForce GTX 480 cards, it will be releasing a special-edition of the ATI Radeon HD 5870.

Outfitted with a custom cooler with inward-facing fans, the card is clocked in at 950MHz core and 5,000MHz GDDR5 memory, up from the default 850MHz/4,800MHz.

Due to be made available in the same week as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 launches, Gigabyte reckons that the performance of the £370 GV-R587S0-1GD is 'close' to the twin-GPU Radeon HD 5970. We're not convinced by the bullish claims, but it will be interesting to see how it compares against NVIDIA's finest. Who is your money on?

only 950MHz? lame

should just about beat fermi since GTX470 is supposed to be between 5850 and 5870 in performance.
So, just to clarify, they've released a card that's clocked.. 31% faster on the core, 25% faster on the memory, than the 5970. But the 5970 has two of the slower 5870s, essentially making it.. 50% faster on the core, and 60% faster on the memory, than the ‘super-overclocked’ 5870. That's hardly close, even when taking in poor Crossfire support.
is it just me or does that look like it has a triple slot cooler?
