Working hard for the money

Next up, the Quadro FX 3800M and Quadro FX 2800M are both new mobile workstations from the green graphics giant.

Sporting up to 128 CUDA cores and 30-bit color accuracy for a purported display of over one billion colours [cue Dr. Evil], the cards also have a whole GB of dedicated graphics memory and are apparently capable for real-time ray tracing, interactive volume rendering, and "the fastest video encoding available in a mobile workstation."

In addition, NVIDIA says it has also bunged in some Power management software, the rather aptly named "PowerMizer", to extend battery life.

NVIDIA also reckons the FX 3800M and 2800M run best in Dell's new Precision M6500 17-inch mobile workstation, with NV's Shawn Worsell noting "Leveraging the massively parallel CUDA computing architecture, the new NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M and Quadro FX 2800M graphics solutions transform the Dell Precision M6500 into a high performance mobile workstation that's ideal for the most demanding 3D design professional."

Then again, he would say that, wouldn't he?
