Multi billion dollar investment
Huang maintained that to be capable of creating a throughput architecture, a parallel computing architecture, that also happens to do graphics really well was "not an inconsequential capability" and reminded his audience that NVIDIA invested one billion dollars a year in R&D in order to achieve this.
"To get to where we are today is the result of some $8 billion in R&D that we've put into our company," he persisted, affirming "that's not an inconsequential amount of R&D, even for our company."
But although Huang seemed flippant regarding the Larrabee threat, the CEO was not so brash as to trivialise the big blue chip firm completely, calling it a "formidable company of extraordinary capabilities" and reminding his audience - as well as himself, it would appear - that his rival had multiple arsenals at its disposal.
The bigger picture? Huang knows he still has a while before Intel become a credible graphics threats, but just how long that while will be is anyone's guess.
