XFX to sell ATI (AMD) graphics cards in the new year

HEXUS can confirm that one of NVIDIA's strongest AIB supporters, XFX, will be signed up as an ATI (AMD) card partner in the very near future.

What that means is that XFX, with its glitzy marketing and XXX Edition cards, will be bringing all this marketing know-how to ATI's GPUs - presumably encompassing the entire line-up of 2-, 3-, and 4-series SKUs.

HEXUS has learned that a formal announcement, detailing the exact relationship between XFX and AMD/ATI, is expected next Tuesday.

What's important to note is that XFX will still be producing NVIDIA-based cards, but it's interesting to see that XFX has chosen a time when NVIDIA is in a strong position to drop brand exclusivity. Perhaps it was a case of NVIDIA laying down the law one too many times, or, more likely, XFX needed to diversify its interests a little.

How does this play out with the likes of Sapphire and HIS, time will only tell, but XFX has just pulled on Santa's outfit - red, of course - and will be doling out Radeon HD 4870s in the new year.

Or perhaps their NVIDIA cards were that crap they needed to start selling the ATI cards to get more money. Tell you what I still won't be buying one of their ATI cards :)

I have 2 XFX cards kicking around….an 8800GTX I bought in Jan 2007 that got a damn good innings until I replaced it recently and relegated it to my secondary PC…..and the recent purchase of an 8600GTS for my server.

Both are working fine (I know I shouldn't have said that!)

In fact, the only gfx cards I can remember owning and dying were a Sapphire X1900XTX (which I got refunded) and a Gainward 6800GT, which IIRC died a few months after selling it to a Hexus staff member :(

Considering how many cards I have bought over the years, I have been fairly lucky.

Although this is brilliant news for ATI/AMD I am with you on this one, still won't touch XFX with a barge pole.

My XFX 7900GS was top notch, even though I had to saw through part of the bracket with a junior hacksaw to fit an aftermarket cooler, whilst swarf and filings got lodged in the DVI ports and coated most of the PCB, it still worked perfectly until I swapped it out for an 8800GT two weeks ago, I'm still keeping it as a backup.

Well, I've had two XFX cards (6800GS, and an 8800GTS which I still regret buying the 320MB version, grr). Both performed flawlessly.

So, Moogle, whom WOULD you buy from? I'm still considering a 1GB 4870 of some sort, but have no idea which manufacturer to go for, leaning towards Asus purely based on my luck with their motherboards.
