In an effort to stifle increasing competition from AMD's HD 4000 series, NVIDIA recently announced an aggressive price cut on its GeForce 9800 GTX, along with the introduction of the 55nm GeForce 9800 GTX+.
NVIDIA had told us that the $290 GeForce 9800 GTX would drop to as little as $199 and those promises are now beginning to be fulfilled - at least, in the US.
US-based online retailer, Newegg.com now offers 9800 GTX cards from the likes of ZOTAC, BFG and EVGA, priced at $206.99, $209.99 and $204.99, respectively. There's even the added bonus of a $10 mail-in rebate.
HEXUS had earlier stated that if these price drops are reflected in the UK market, we could soon see 9800 GTX cards drop from around £180 to £125. Sadly, that isn't yet the case. Popular UK etailers, Scan.co.uk and Ebuyer.com, are still selling 9800 GTX cards at around the £180 mark, that's roughly a whopping $360.
It's no surprise, therefore, that a large percentage of our readers are opting for an AMD graphics card. Here's hoping NVIDIA's price cuts are reflected globally sooner rather than later.
