From Boston, come a number of servers implementing new motherboards and chassis from server-board manufacturer Supermicro. They're designed for the latest and up-coming Intel Xeon dual-core processors: 5000 Dempsey and 5100 Woodcrest. Complementing the new processors is a 1333MHz front-side bus clock, which should help I/O operations along and also provide more bandwidth for fully buffered (FB-) DIMMs.
President and CEO of Supermicro, Charles Liang, is enthusiastic about the new server boards: "For many applications, our new server solutions deliver double the performance, consume less power than previous Xeon servers, and require users to pay no price premium"
And for those of you who like oggling PCBs, here's some server pr0n...
Count those DIMM slots, that's support for 64GiB of DDR2 FB-DIMMS. Then of course there's the usual array of server-class storage controllers, along with PCI-X-133/100 and PCIe 8x slots.
All of this is housed in a Supermicro chassis...
With the Core-based Woodcrest just around the corner, Boston are pushing these servers as high performers with the latest processors, as well as those that are about to make an appearance.
