At the start of June was saw a large French tech retailer share product pages for the upcoming trio of AMD Ryzen 3000XT CPUs; the AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT, and Ryzen 5 3600XT. We took note of the pricing of €499, €459, and €319, respectively. At the weekend two of these 'Matisse Refresh' processors were found listed for pre-order on Amazon Italy. The pricing in Italy is different but this time around the pre-order page includes a release date; Tuesday, 7th July.

The Amazon Italy listings have since been taken down, but not before they were screen-shotted for posterity by the likes of Tom's Hardware and others. You can see the screenshots above and below.

You can see the listings include not only the hardware availability date (7th July) but kindly inform viewers of the page that these processors are under NDA until 16th June (tomorrow). There isn't a lot more information on the product pages but what we can see in the listings is in my bullet points, below:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT: 12C/24T, 70MB cache, 4.7GHz max boost clock. Priced at €569,69.
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT: 6C/12T, 35MB cache, 4.5GHz max clock boost, Wraith Spire cooler in box. Priced at €284,84

The above details signify that the Ryzen 3000X and 3000XT chips have the same cores/threads and cache, but faster boost clocks (100Mhz faster in both cases). The base clocks were not shared in the Amazon listings. If that is all the change that is present, the Ryzen 3000XT chips may simply be higher-binned parts but it is possible AMD has some further surprises - and we will find out tomorrow if that is the case.

The pricing doesn't look great for the small clock speed improvement that we know about from the listings. These Ryzen 3000XT CPUs are both listed at approx 30 per cent more expensive (in Italy) than the processors upon which they are based upon.

To be honest I'm pretty sure there will be a downward movement in prices fairly quickly - perhaps even stopping the older models and these replacing them…

Ryzen 7 3700 dropped to £250 on Amazon, this morning. Which is the lowest it's been, so far.

I think that's the plan. I suspect this is as a result of process refinements and/or more conservative binning to start with and then pushing it a bit more when they're more confident in the yields, reliability, etc. The high prices of these will make the older ones look bargainous and help move old stock. Then the prices of these can drop to more sensible levels.

It's what I'd do as if you don't, you end up with a load of old stock you can't move and there's money tied up in that stock which you simply can't get back.

Decent drops on many Ryzens and AM4 motherboards on Amazon today to be fair…
