German PC maker Cirrus7 has launched the Nimbini. This is the firm's smallest ever PC and is constructed of modular laser-cut aluminium layers to provide fanless performance with a Broadwell NUC motherboard. Cirrus7 will be providing both full Nimbini systems (with a choice of Windows or Ubuntu installed), or the Nimbini in a DIY kit form, reports Fanless Tech. If you think you've seen something similar before, Cirrus7 began selling a larger, but still SFF, Nimbus system using similar construction methods a couple of years ago.
The Cirrus7 Nimbini measures 150 x 150 x 87mm and is compatible with Intel Broadwell (i3 / i5 / i7) NUCs. Fanless Tech says compatibility extends to the yet to be released 28W Iris Graphics Core i7 NUC which will be cooled "just fine" by the weighty aluminium construction and fins.
Other key specs of the Cirrus7 Nimbini system will come courtesy of the NUC board installed, you should enjoy; 2 x USB 3.0 + 1x jack front and 2 x USB 3.0 + 2x mini-DP + 1x Gigabit Ethernet + Wi-Fi (optional) round the back. Inside there will be room for both a M.2 SSD and additional 2.5-inch drive of your choice.

Interestingly, if you don't foresee a need to install an additional 2.5-inch drive you can skip one of the layers in the construction and make a thinner, lighter PC. In a similar vein there are optional wall and back of screen mounting kits to add/omit. If you choose the DIY option, rather than buying a full Nimbini system and OS, be warned that the DIY kit isn't trivial as it contains over 90 parts, according to Fanless Tech.
The Cirrus7 Nimbini will become available to pre-order soon and is expected to ship from mid-May. Pricing of systems and kits is yet to be revealed.
