Cannes, France. – May 25, 2010
What: AMD (NYSE:AMD) showcased the arrival of new Notebook and Desktop computers featuring VISION Technology from AMD at an event on the Cote D’Azur. Introduced in September 2009, VISION Technology from AMD helps simplify the PC buying experience by replacing confusing technical specifications with simple descriptions of the experience the computer can deliver. VISION also signifies the strong visual performance that VISION-based computers deliver—ideal for enjoying numerous forms of entertainment on the PC, from watching movies to playing games to editing photos.
VISION Video Competition: AMD hosted 70 members of the European media in Cannes last week and encouraged first-hand interaction with AMD’s newest products in a video-editing master class and film creation competition. Groups were armed with a camcorder, given a theme – (eight themes – ‘luxury’, ‘style’, ‘fun’, ‘water’, ‘taste’, ‘entertainment’, ‘contrasts’ and ‘lights’) and taken through a hands-on product tutorial on the new AMD products around the ‘VISION Experience’. After receiving their video theme, the journalists participated in a master class, in which the groups learnt the fine art of video editing using Cyberlink editing software on VISION desktop PCs.
There was a tensely fought competition among the various media groups to create an award-winning short film. Ultimately, the judging panel, which comprised Miki Manojlovic and representatives from HP, Toshiba and Dell, recognised the ‘Contrasts’ team as the winner.
Why: Consumers are increasingly turning to their computers as entertainment devices: sharing photos and videos with friends through social networking sites, downloading their favorite TV shows through HD entertainment sites and using it to edit family photos and videos. VISION-based PCs are optimized for video, digital media and content creation activities. Cannes and the Cannes Film Festival provide a compelling environment in which to demonstrate AMD’s technology leadership in graphics and visual experiences with VISION Technology from AMD.
Who: AMD vice president and CMO, Nigel Dessau, and Alberto Bozzo, AMD corporate vice president, EMEA, were joined in Cannes by key business partners, customers and the world media to showcase the systems featuring VISION Technology from AMD. In addition, AMD has unveiled a ‘short film’ in celebration of VISION Technology from AMD, starring Miki Manojlovic, world-renowned actor who has starred in two previous Palme D’Or winning films.
