PRESS RELEASE

Dell and Canonical have today announced the availability of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on all Dell XPS 13 Developer Editions.

Available in the US now, and in Europe from next month, this will be the fourth iteration of Project Sputnik – Dell’s Linux project – and will see Ubuntu 18.04 pre-installed on Dell’s premium developer device across ten configurations, with 1TB SSD, up to 16GB RAM and the latest 8th generation Intel Quad Core processors.

The combination of Dell's superior hardware with Bionic Beaver provides a top tier and reliable experience straight out of the box, including:

  • Minimal install and LivePatch – developers will have more control and trust in applications by applying security fixes without rebooting
  • Full snap integration – access to the likes of Slack, Skype and Spotify in containerised form will allow users to run on the latest software and roll back to secure versions automatically in case of any issues
  • Support and security updates for 5 years – 18.04 LTS comes with continued investment by the Ubuntu community to ensure devices run at peak performance
