QNAP Turbo NAS Supports VMware VAAI and vSphere Client Plug-in, Windows Server 2012, and Enhances AFP Performance

Taipei, Taiwan, March 6, 2013 - QNAP® Systems, Inc. today announced highly anticipated business features, including VMware VAAI and vSphere Client Plug-in for business virtualization enhancement, the official certification for Windows® Server 2012, and AFP performance enhancement on small file transfer.

The support of VMware VAAI, featuring Full copy, Block zeroing and Hardware-assisted locking, enables data processing offloaded to the Turbo NAS to increase work efficiency. The support of vSphere Client Plug-in allows managing VMware datastores on the Turbo NAS directly from the vSphere Client console, greatly improving productivity of management of multiple virtual machines. "With these supports, the Turbo NAS becomes a more effective storage in virtualization solution and excels in increasing productivity on managing a great number of virtual machines for IT staffs," said Jérôme Jaussaud, product manager of QNAP. VMware VAAI and vSphere Client Plug-in are supported by TS-x79, TS-x70, and TS-x69 series.

Besides, the selected Turbo NAS series are officially certified for Windows Server 2012, including TS-x79, TS-x70, and TS-x69 series. The combination of QNAP Turbo NAS and Windows Server 2012 creates a cost-effective infrastructure, physically and virtually, for businesses. Businesses can particularly enjoy the boosted performance, pleasing flexibility, management efficiency in various virtualization applications with the compatibility of Windows Server 2012.

The Turbo NAS lineup supports AFP (Apple Filing Protocol), enabling Mac computers to connect to the NAS. Now the APF performance on small file transfer is improved with increasing rate as much as 38% in read and 152% in write depending on the processor platform. "The enhanced performance is beneficial to speed up file transfer. Users can experience the apparently smooth work and the improved efficiency when using AFP," said Jason Hsu, product manager of QNAP.
