Taipei, Taiwan, May 2009 - QNAP Security today announced the 2-bay, Intel Atom-based, hot-swappable, high performance network surveillance systems - VioStor-2012 and VioStor-2008 NVR. Featuring the low power Intel Atom 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB DDRII memory, and DOM (Disk on Module) architecture and the latest 3.0 firmware, the VioStor-2012/ 2008 are particularly designed to support megapixel recording, large storage capacity, and high quality video and audio monitoring in the workplace of small business and SOHO users. The VioStor-2012 and VioStor-2008 NVR are Linux-based systems which support 12-channel and 8-channel recording respectively. Both systems support M-JPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 video compression and are compatible with the IP-based cameras and network video servers from famous brands, e.g. AXIS, ACTi, Arecont, Canon, Cisco, D-Link, EDIMAX, ELMO, EtroVision, GANZ, iPUX, IQeye, LevelOne, Linksys, MOBOTIX, Panasonic BB/ BL/ i-Pro, SANYO, SONY, TOA, TOSHIBA, TRENDnet, VIVOTEK, and Y-CAM.

According to Andrew Yu, Product Manager from QNAP, "H.264 is the new generation video compression standard. The VioStor-2012/ 2008 NVR support H.264 monitoring and recording that the video quality is higher while the file size is smaller than MPEG-4. It is an excellent feature for high performance surveillance in an environment of limited bandwidth. By adopting the low power Intel Atom CPU, both NVR are silent and power-saving systems. They support megapixel recording from multiple network cameras and even up to 8-megapixel cameras. The users can make use of the intuitive user interface to monitor the cameras and view the connection status, recording status, and network bandwidth, etc. The systems also support intelligent data search by timeline and event type so that the users can playback the video easily."

The VioStor-2012/ 2008 NVR support SATA hard drives with hot-swap design. The storage capacity is up to 4TB, which is ideal for long-term recording. They support diversified recording functions such as schedule recording, alarm recording, alarm recording schedule, motion-detection recording, pre-alarm, and post-alarm recordings, etc. Other class-leading features are also available, e.g. RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD disk configurations, Online RAID Capacity Expansion, Online RAID Level Migration, two Giga LAN ports for failover, load-balancing, and multi-IP settings. The VioStor-2012/ 2008 NVR can be easily installed in 6 steps. All the system functions can be conveniently managed by the IE web browser.
