Super Hybrid Engine and Green LCD Technology Key to Qualification
April 28, 2011 - ASUS, the world's top-three consumer notebook vendor and the maker of the world's best-selling and most award winning motherboards, today announced that it won the prestigious "Excellence in Efficient Product Design" award at the 2011 ENERGY STAR Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized ASUS for the company's Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) tool and design techniques that reduce the number of lamps in its notebooks and monitors in order to achieve high levels of energy efficiency. At present, ASUS has received ENERGY STAR qualifications for 313 notebooks and 62 monitors.
"Thanks to the creative promotion efforts of partners like ASUS, consumers can more easily find energy-efficient ENERGY STAR products in the marketplace," said Elizabeth Craig, Acting Director of EPA's Office of Atmospheric Programs. "ASUS leads the way by helping Americans learn how they can protect our environment through energy efficiency. We look forward to seeing the innovative programs ASUS will continue to deliver."
ASUS U.S. Senior Sales Manager George Lee, who received the award on behalf of the company, said "This latest recognition from the EPA is an example of our efforts to reduce the company's carbon footprint on the planet. The work of Green ASUS starts with green design, procurement, manufacturing and marketing. We will continue to develop and deliver technology and products that are environmentally friendly".
ASUS has designed exclusive technologies with the environment in mind. The ASUS Super Hybrid Engine extends battery life in notebooks while increasing motherboard performance with a special power-saving processor. ASUS has worked for more than a decade to eliminate harmful substances from the production process and use recyclable packaging materials. The EPA said it values the effort by ASUS to promote ENERGY STAR through internal company training, supplier workshops and consistent and visible product labeling.

About ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants associated with energy use. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 kinds of products as well as new homes and buildings. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $18 billion on their utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas equivalent to those of 34 million cars. Products, homes and buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR prevent emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. For more information, go to energystar.gov.
