MILAN, ITALY?May 7, 2004?AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced that Genialloyd, the e-commerce division of Italian insurance company RAS and member of the Allianz Group, has deployed an AMD Opteron(tm) processor-based IBM eServer 325 platform to better manage customer data and more accurately analyze risk selection.
Based on AMD64 technology, the AMD Opteron processor features Direct Connect Architecture. AMD removed the front-side bus bottleneck and directly connected the processors, the memory controller and the I/O, resulting in improved overall system performance and efficiency. Genialloyd will combine the power of the AMD Opteron processor and Microsoft(r) Windows(r) Server 2000 along with its own proprietary software to decrease costs and increase performance of its mission-critical web applications. "When it comes to profiling potential customers, updating large databases and analyzing risk, we need reliable and scalable IT solutions that meet our compute-intensive needs and increase our customer responsiveness," said Salvatore Faragò, Technical Manager at Genialloyd IT Department. "The AMD Opteron processor-based solution from IBM meets these needs and delivers exceptional performance." The IBM eServer 325 solution with the AMD Opteron processor represents the ideal platform for e-commerce enterprises that manage high-volume web transactions. In 2003, Genialloyd processed 2.1 million online insurance applications.
"Genialloyd's implementation of the AMD Opteron processor in its enterprise is a perfect example of the relevance of our customer-centric philosophy: we enable our partners to deliver the right solution by listening to our end customers," said Henri Richard, executive vice president, AMD Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "AMD's strong commitment to an industry-standard, pervasive 64-bit computing environment is proving to be the right one-especially in the enterprise segment, where reliability, scalability and security are among the top priorities for IT decision makers."
