INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 17, 2004 – Today more than ever industry is seizing upon standards-based technologies to enhance customer service and reduce cost of ownership.

In their keynote addresses at the inaugural Intel Solutions Conference coinciding with the Intel Developer Forum Spring 2004 today, Intel Corporation executives John Davies and Will Swope discussed how new technologies, initiatives and solutions will enable such industries as healthcare, financial services, retail, government and manufacturing to modernize their practices.

"Organizations of every size and industry require more than new software and hardware and they need complete solutions that change workflow and where technology is being used," said John Davies, vice president, Intel Sales and Marketing Group and director, Solutions Market Development Group. "As technology continues to advance, the onus is on our industry to help advance new usage models that improve how our customers run their businesses."

As an example of the industry working together to build solutions around new technologies, Intel and McKesson Information Solutions are now working together to showcase the benefits of mobile and wireless technologies operating in support of healthcare. McKesson software and services combined with Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology can improve healthcare quality, safety and efficiency through mobile, point-of-care solutions.

Critical to the success of delivering complete solutions, is the support of the software development community.

"As organizations begin to re-invest in IT, mobility is the next big wave of computing that will bring competitive advantage through new business models and productivity improvements," said Will Swope, Intel vice president and general manager, Software and Solutions Group. "But applications need to be architected to take advantage of an occasionally connected computing environment, instead of being hampered by one."

Intel is helping drive the transition through industry programs, such as the mobilized software initiative to help software developers architect their applications to more easily integrate mobile solutions into an enterprise infrastructure. Intel is also helping software developers take better advantage of hardware innovations through a number of software initiatives, such as driving the adoption of the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) and by delivering tools and products for software developers including compilers, performance analyzers, libraries and the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI.
