The AMD/BLX Development Center and its product solutions will aim to meet customers' needs for complete computing client solutions in the China region. The newly opened development center will integrate AMD and BLX technologies and solutions at different levels to deliver innovative thin client solutions to customers.
The first set of solutions from the center are two Thin Client Reference Designs powered by low-power, high-performance AMD Alchemy(tm) processor solutions and BLX Godson processor technology. These thin client solutions are designed to enable customers to improve the overall computing experience, enhance localized content and help bring their products to market in a timely and cost-effective manner. These Linux-based BLX Thin Client RDKs are designed to deliver multimedia capabilities with streaming video support at a competitive low system cost. Designed for a broad customer base, BLX leveraged AMD Alchemy(tm) technology to enable an advanced multimedia experience with media-rich consumer applications such as the playback of digital video, digital movies and music. As multimedia becomes increasingly pervasive, such functionality will be included in a growing number of products, including client and networking devices. BLX plans to enhance the multimedia features and capacity in its thin client solutions with advanced software and chip technologies in the near future. These advanced solutions are designed to allow BLX to broaden its market base in China and around the world.
AMD and BLX plan to provide strong resource and support to the development center. BLX plans to also target appropriate OEMs through proactive sales and marketing initiatives. Additionally, AMD plans to actively promote the designs from the AMD/BLX Development Center to a broader global OEM market outside the Greater China region. Target opportunities for these solutions include thin client, mobile client devices, and access/networking devices.
"Building on our plans for growth in the Chinese market, we are pleased to partner with BLX to deliver superior solutions to customers and increase visibility of China designs worldwide," said Karen Guo, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD China. "We look forward to a long-term relationship in China, and we want to leverage BLX's strong industry support here and their platform design expertise to meet the needs of a diverse customer base worldwide."
"The partnership between AMD and BLX is a win-win solution. We are pleased to collaborate at a deep level with a world class company like AMD who is committed to explore this market with BLX not only for China, but also for increasing visibility of Chinese design and technology globally," said Dr. Guo-Jie Li, chairman of BLX, and the director of the Institute of Computing Technology, China Academy of Sciences.
"Our strong platform and software design expertise could let us deliver innovative, cost-effective thin client solutions with AMD's high-performance, low-power AMD Alchemy processor solutions and BLX's low-cost Godson processor. These solutions not only match different customer requirements, but also help our customers to deliver products to market quickly." said Shen Hua, chief executive officer, BLX. "We look forward to working with AMD to win designs with OEMs here and expanding our business among our customer-base worldwide."
"We are excited to reach this new milestone with a company like BLX which has an excellent platform design reputation and a well respected design team to address customer demands in and out of China," said Billy Edwards, AMD's general manager for the Personal Connectivity Solutions group. "Customers' demand for improved device performance and lower-power consumption, along with increased flexibility, are critical drivers in the non-PC market and convinced us of the need to establish a development center to address those needs leveraging AMD's leading-edge technology solutions and BLX's technical expertise and execution strengths."
