AMD's AUSTIN FAB 25 RECEIVES TWO ADDITIONAL
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS
AUSTIN, TX-OCTOBER 7, 2002- AMD today announced that the
company's Fab 25 manufacturing facility in Austin has received two new
certifications for key voluntary standards for environmental and occupational
health and safety management systems, the ISO 14001 standard and the OHSAS 18001
specification. AMD's Fab 25 is among a select group of manufacturing facilities
in Texas to receive third-party certification to both of these rigorous
international standards.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
14001 is the leading international standard for environmental management
systems. OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 is
becoming one of the most internationally recognized specifications for
occupational health and safety management systems. These certifications,
provided by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., verify that AMD's Fab 25 has robust
systems in place to identify and manage potential environmental impacts and
occupational health and safety risks, and to pursue continual improvement. Fab
25 has a number of initiatives in place to meet its environmental, health and
safety goals, including recycling and water reuse programs, extensive ergonomic
training, and an injury and illness prevention team.
"AMD established a set of aggressive internal standards
governing our worldwide environmental, health and safety practices well before
the introduction of certifications such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001," said Rich
Weigand, AMD director of Environmental Health and Safety. "These third-party
certifications highlight AMD's long-standing commitment to providing a safe
workplace for employees and protecting our neighboring communities. In addition,
international certifications are increasingly important to our global customers
and partners. AMD customers can be confident that AMD has world-class risk
management systems in place to protect their supply chains."
All of AMD's manufacturing facilities meet the ISO 14001
standard. AMD's Singapore and Bangkok sites are also OHSAS 18001 certified.
