Two of the heavyweight graphic chip manufacturers, Nvidia and AMD, race this year to launch new products and compete head on for the No 1 position in the industry. After several VGA cards introduced by AMD, Nvida has finally released the GTX680, or the legendary VGA chipset, and Lantic quickly followed up and announced the GeForce GTX 680 VGA card.
Backed by the latest Kepler architecture, LANTIC GeForce GTX 680 features cutting edge GPU Boost technology and can dynamically adjust the operating frequency.
Usually, VGA cards will operate within a designed power limit, but this technology actually capitalizes on the balanced relationship between performance and power consumption. In most user scenarios, the power consumed by the display chipset barely reaches the upper limit originally designed. This gap, however, does exist and can still be exploited to boost performance. This method is similar to the turbo boost technology adopted by Intel in its CPU designs.
Based on the GK104 architecture, LANTIC GeForc GTX 680 features 1536 CUDA cores and operates at the 1006 MHz core frequency. With GPU Boost dynamic acceleration technology, the acceleration frequency can reach 1059 MHz. It uses 256 bit memory controller, is designed with 2GB GDDR5 RAM, 256 bit memory bandwidth, 6008 MHz memory frequency, 192.2 GB/s total frequency and is currently the VGA card with the highest rated frequency in the market.
GTX 680 supports PCI-E 3.0 and 3-way SLI to form a dual-link DVI, HDMI and DP interface and can realize single-card 3D Vision Surround and support a maximum of 3+1 monitor outputs. Compared with previous generation GTX 580, LANTIC GeForce GTX 68 has largely reduced power consumption, and the consumption level can go as low as 195W for TDP and be powered by a dual 6 pin interface.
