Leading financial services company to deploy more than 15,000 AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor-based HP d325 systems

SUNNYVALE, CA-Sept. 17, 2003-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that H&R Block, a Fortune 500 financial services company, is standardizing its desktop platform on the AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor-based HP Business Desktop d325. Installation of the new platform at H&R Block will begin in early October.

By selecting the HP d325, H&R Block recognized the strategic value provided by AMD's technology solutions that help align IT strategies with evolving business objectives. The AMD Athlon XP processors enable IT investment protection by helping enterprise customers extend commercial platform lifecycles.

"We chose the AMD solution because it will help reduce the number of desktop image changes," said Roger Zaremba, H&R Block's vice president/technical services. "Because we support thousands of desktops across many regions and our tax software changes every year, a more stable system image will help us eliminate a significant amount of time spent on image development and testing and will significantly lower our total cost of ownership."

The AMD Athlon processor architecture has become a trusted solution for businesses looking for high performance and reduced total cost of ownership. With the combination of NVIDIA's Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) and the AMD Athlon XP processor, the update of images across the d325 and its predecessor, the Compaq D315, requires minimal time and effort.

"Customers such as H&R Block and other large enterprises demand technology that helps solve real business problems," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of the Microprocessor Business Unit at AMD. "This is why AMD has worked with best-in-class partners like NVIDIA and HP to deliver a desktop platform that delivers exceptional performance, reliability and most important, stability."

Other standard features with the HP Business Desktop d325 include innovative Double Data Rate (DDR) memory technology, first introduced by AMD in the PC industry, which provides up to twice the data-moving capability for more productivity; world-class NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics for exceptional screen resolution; and, the NVIDIA nForce2 processor platform with HyperTransport(tm) technology for reducing data movement bottlenecks.

All AMD processors are Microsoft(r) Windows(r) Hardware Quality Laboratory-qualified and are extensively tested for compatibility with thousands of business applications, including the most popular office productivity suites.
