Now in Technicolor
Acer's Liquidmini Android handset has been refreshed with updates not only to the chassis, which now comes in a selection of colours, but also to the operating system and installed software.
The same 3.2in, multi-touch display, 600MHz CPU and 5MP camera remain, but the version of Android has been bumped to 2.3 'Gingerbread.' The new Liquidmetal will come in "cherry, lagoon, pearl and steel" colours - otherwise known as red, blue, white and black - which apparently "evoke summer, vacation and the longing for relax and have fun with friends." Similarly more of a nicety than a necessity is the addition of the Acer 4.2 UI over the top of the stock Android installation.
Acer's UI enables the placement of homescreen widgets, an updated virtual keyboard and faster app switching (activated with a hold of the Home button). Also pre-installed is the SocialJogger app, which now also offers Plurk and Flickr on top of Facebook and Twitter integration, letting users manage accounts for multiple social networking services in one place.
Also on the list of apps is DocumentToGo, letting Office documents to be edited on the Liquidmetal, and RoadSync gives Outlook Exchange support, for corporate-focussed users. Gmail, Google Maps, Google Navigation and Google Talk also come installed on the handset, and with access to the Android Market, there's plenty of scope for adding more applications to the Liquidmetal.
