Super scoop

It looks like Kal-El day isn't too far away, judging by pictures captured by zol.co.cn and reported on by Engadget.

Chinese mobile giant ZTE is showing off a new seven inch tablet at some Chinese tech fair called the T98 which, according to the spec card image below runs a chip called Tegra 3. This has always been the presumed official name for Kal-El - the quad-core SoC NVIDIA first spoke about at MWC this year.

A second shot, this time presumably of a spec breakdown of the device, shows the presence of four cores clocked at 1.3GHz.

There's not much more to say, especially with our Chinese not being remotely up to the job, but if OEMs are already showing off Tegra 3 devices at trade shows, it surely won't be long before we get the first major Tegra 3 launch.

I seriously hope Orange pick this up under their city moniker. ZTE have a habbit of selling their gear for cheap. Sub £200 Tegra Honeycomb tablet?

note

I'll be interested to see how this thing performs. Could do with a bit bigger though.

7" is a reasonable size for an eReader, media device and games platform - from my experience it's a good size for a ruckie's front pouch or cargo pants thigh pocket.

Hopefully, the availability of the new processors will speed up ICS - which'll (if it lives up to it's billing) benefit these new tablets, plus folks like me with the old (dual core) junk… ;)
