Crysis Warhead was only launched on September 19th, but already a modder has allegedly found a way to boost the game's performance, apparently improving framerates by up to 60 to 70% per second.

Though we haven't checked out the new mod, the screenshot comparisons between Enthusiast mode and with the new config file installed show slight differences.

However, the real boost to perforamce appears to be with improved framerates.

The reaction on the Crymod forums is generally positive:

All I can say is wow, it took my FPS from 20ish (on gamer!) to a damn solid 35 fps at the end fighting the final exosuit, amazing considering all that is going on during that battle.

I also went and poked around the jungle and it looks amazing with a pretty solid 35 fps even when being hunted by a gang of pka,
reports KPWV.

This is a great config. Gave me 50% fps with hardly any visual loss, enthused Jaju123

Not all reaction was positive though, with one user claiming that the performance config file causes his game to crash frequently whilst running it using DX9.

Over the coming weeks, we can expect to see a host of new mods released for EA's explosive shooter.

You can download the mod here , but please note, we haven't tested it ourselves.

Ill try this mod in a few, i havent really had problems with enthusiast at getting a maximum FPS its more todo with a steady one which no setting gives >.<. Maybe the other mods will have co-op finally because that is something that would be VERY good for crysis.
It's not disimilar to my command line hacks in the other thread - but it does turn off motion blur entirely. It doesn't enable the underwater effects though (which I really like). The biggest straight increase with speed is killing off AA for me. I notice depth of field is off too.

Here's my quick tweakguide - this will run nicely on a 8800GTX PC with a 3gz dual or quad.

1 Go into the game, set everything to “Gamer”, choose your res, set 4x AA (if you want AA)

2 Quit.

3 Create a new shortcut to the game exe (in Bin32 of the crysis warhead dir), rename it to Warhead Tweaked or something

4 add the following to the shortcut:

+r_sunshafts 1 +e_water_ocean_fft 1 +g_battleDust_enable 1 +r_WaterGodRays 1 +r_UsePOM 1 +e_shadows_max_texture_size 512 +con_restricted 0

(outside the quotation marks)

This will enable lots of eye candy whilst not sacrificing performance too heavily - the shadows tweak makes no visual difference but boost performance btw.

This works in the original crysis too.

I don't turn off motionblur and I reduce the shadow textures more too. With no AA this runs very well on an 8800GTX and has more eye candy.

One other thing - Crysis/Warhead both run faster under XP.
After using it for about 10mins i have seen little if any different, looks slightly worse without any extra performance that i can see and it crashed just now so i think its better on normal :P.
Is there something like this for Mass Effect? My 9800gtx at 1920x1200 averages less than 20fps as far as I can tell
I was trying my own config file for a cheap very high setting, (with a couple of things changed). Just got Warhead today, will try it with and without
