Nielsen reveals 2012's most anticipated console games

We all have our own ideas of which games we're going to buy, but New York survey specialist Nielsen has gone all out to determine which console titles are most eagerly anticipated for the remainder of 2012.

To find the answers, the survey considered "eight key consumer metrics" - including factors such as awareness and purchase interest - to create an overall score that is then compared to all previously-released titles on the same platform to determine its percentile rank.

Sounds a wee bit convoluted, but Nielsen goes on to explain; a title with a Game Rank of 80% on Xbox 360 is performing better than 80% of all previous Xbox 360 titles at the same stage in the release cycle.

So, what's hot and what's not? Unsurprisingly, Halo 4 tops the list of most anticipated Xbox 360 games, with a ranking of 98 per cent, while two other Xbox 360 exclusives - Fable: The Journey and Kinect: Star Wars - feature in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

The PlayStation 3 list is without any exclusives and is topped by Assassin's Creed III, while Nintendo's Wii offers arguably the least attractive line up. I mean, seriously, Madden 13 and Battleship in the top three?

There's no mention of GTA V anywhere in the survey, so if Nielsen knows something we don't, perhaps that one has slipped into 2013. All in all, there are some-good looking titles, but the lists are dominated by sequels - speaking of which, it shouldn't be long before the next Call of Duty comes along to claim top spot.
