However, some U.K. retailers, including GAME have now listed the 3D-enabled device on their websites, suggesting that it will cost approximately £229.99. Play.com is offering the 3DS a little cheaper at £219.99, while HMV has revealed, via Twitter, that it will also sell the unit at £229.99.
Though the price in the U.S. was revealed as $249.99, gamers looking to pick up this cheaper model will be disappointed to learn that it will be region locked. Nintendo UK’s Dawn Paine said the move was necessary to help stem piracy and that U.K. consumers are still getting good value for money.
“Price, affordability and value are important to UK consumers – and we are delivering on all three,” she said, speaking to Metro.
The official launch date for the 3DS in the U.K. is March 25, 2011, two days ahead of the U.S. launch date. Now that you know the price are you tempted to pick one up?
