May 12, 2003 - Atari, Inc., DreamWorks and Intel Corporation announced today that they have formed a unique collaboration to develop and co-market a groundbreaking interactive game that will marry epic animated adventure with the latest innovation in PC technology.
“Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” is an interactive action game based on the upcoming DreamWorks animated action adventure film of the same name, opening in theatres nationwide on July 2. Unlike most previous PC games based on movies, the “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” game is being created in collaboration with one of the film’s directors, Patrick Gilmore. Gilmore is making his directorial debut on “Sinbad” after a ten-year career developing and producing video games.
“Diving back into a game production after more than three years, it's amazing to me how much the technology has kept up. It is exciting to work with two companies that are at the forefront of advancing technology and are capable of meeting the major challenges of bringing our film to life for gamers,” said Patrick Gilmore, director of the motion picture, “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.”
The game is being developed to take full advantage of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with Hyper-Threading (HT) Technology. Intel’s HT Technology allows the PC’s processor to perform multiple complex tasks at the same time with greater responsiveness. Consumers that play the game on a PC enabled with HT Technology will experience higher quality character models, more detailed animation and more dynamic game environments that uniquely capture the beauty and adventure of the film. As an example, HT Technology will immerse players deeper into the world of Sinbad by letting them see things such as the wind filling the sails of Sinbad's ship and the shape of the deep sea waves as he embarks on his adventure.
“Intel’s goal is to bring the most exciting content to the PC,” said Ann Lewnes, vice president, Sales and Marketing Group, and director, Intel Inside® Program and Co-Marketing, Intel. “Our innovative technology is enabling the creative community and software developers to advance the quality of content and bring consumers a new ‘wow’ experience on their powerful home PC.”
The “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” PC game brings the movie’s swashbuckling action home by letting players become Sinbad as he joins his heroic companions on an epic adventure that will take them to the ends of the earth. Players feel as though they are in the movie through exciting gameplay and state-of-the-art visuals made possible by Intel®’s Pentium® 4 processor with HT Technology.
“Unique relationships such as this provide us with new ways to enhance the game-playing experience,” said Bruno Bonnell, chairman and ceo of Atari, Inc. “By forging a bond with two powerful companies in different industries, we are bringing innovation to this project on both the business and creative levels, testing yet another new model for game development. We are delighted to be working on ‘Sinbad’ with DreamWorks and Intel and are delighted that they sought our involvement and leadership on this project.”
The game will be released in the U.S. in October prior to the DVD and VHS launch of “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas,” allowing both the game and video to maximize media exposure and cross promotional and marketing opportunities. The worldwide game release will follow later in the year.
