Okay, so this isn’t exactly news that falls into the usual “tech” category on HEXUS, but it is something that may appeal to LEGO nuts and Lord Of The Rings geeks; and we know there are plenty of you hanging around our community forums.

LEGO will be launching a LEGO: Lord Of The Rings Collection in the summer, which will be followed by a range of LEGO: The Hobbit sets that will coincide with the launch of the new movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, toward the end of the year.

An official website has launched with the teaser “Coming Summer 2012” and shows a block-headed Frodo brandishing the infamous gold ring. As you can see from the promotional shot below, the collection will feature all the major characters, including Gandalf, Meriadoc, Peregrin Took and Aragorn.

LEGO fans can also expect a variety of elaborate packages that feature some of the iconic locations and scenes from the books and films.

Some of the sets were displayed at the New York Toy Fair this week, including (9474) The Battle of Helm's Deep, which comes complete with castle, eight mini-figures, and 1,368 pieces.

Is there any huge mainstream franchise that LEGO hasn't covered yet?

I love lego - Shame it so flipping expensive! That Helm's deep set will be £50+ at a guess…
Think it was $130 for the US
Will there be a Lego LOTR game? That would be hellu cool.
