James Sherwood of The Register reports:
Samsung has unveiled a super-slim watchphone, just weeks before the impending UK launch of LG’s GD910 Dick Tracy device.
The S9110 isn’t Samsung’s first watchphone – the firm launched a 2G phone-cum-watch back in 2003, but at 11.98mm thick the S9110 is thought to be the world’s thinnest watchphone so far.
Although Samsung’s keeping mum about the device’s connectivity specifications for the time being, the company has confirmed that the S9110 features a 1.7in scratch-proof touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.1 and support for MP3 audio files.
The watchphone doesn’t appear to have a user-facing camera for video calls, which could mean that LG’s version – which does support video calls – will be more highly sought after by tech addicts.
Samsung’s S9110 watchphone will be available in France next month for €450 (£387/$640), but it’s not yet known when the gadget will appear in Blighty.
