Hauppauge releases twin tuner Freeview TV card for PCs

Perfect upgrade for Windows Media Center and forward compatible with Windows Vista

London, England – Hauppauge Digital, the world leader in TV on a PC products, has released a twin tuner Freeview add-on card for Windows PCs. The Hauppauge WinTV Nova-t 500, priced at £99.99 inc VAT, allows owners to watch one Freeview programme whilst recording another, or to record two programmes simultaneously.

The Nova-t 500, available immediately, is the perfect upgrade for Windows Media Center PCs, says Hauppauge, and is forward compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista, which will include media capabilities in its home user versions.

The new card uses the latest silicon tuners to provide enhanced picture quality, faster scanning and operation, and lower power consumption. Included with the Nova-t 500 is Hauppauge's own TV viewing software, allowing any Windows XP user to watch and record TV, access a 7-day programme guide (EPG). Also included is a remote control.

"This is the perfect TV card for media PCs, such as those running Windows Media Center, Power Cinema, MythTV, Sage TV or the upcoming Windows Vista," said Yehia Oweiss, VP of European Sales for Hauppauge Digital. "Two tuners are essential in these types of PCs, allowing simultaneous reception of two channels and for the first time a single product provides two digital Freeview tuners so you can watch one channel while recording another."

Copy programmes to PSPs and iPods! The Nova-t 500 includes Hauppauge's WingSE software, which enables recorded TV to be transferred onto Sony PSP devices and video iPods. The software optimises the recordings to save space on the target device, whilst utilising its maximum display capabilities.

System Requirements:
* Pentium IV processor 1.2GHz or faster for TV pause with full screen playback
* WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005, WindowsXP Home or WindowsXP Professional
* Free PCI slot
* Sound card
* VGA card (PCI or AGP)
* DVD decoder certified for use with Media Center 2005 (if MCE2005 used)

Drivers for the Hauppauge WinTV Nova-t 500 are Microsoft WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab) certified.

Ooh thats great news as I've got 1 of these myself :)

Nice to see that I can reuse this when Vista comes out and I build a new PC
One disappointment, though - there is no Vista beta software available to download, in the expected place as best as I can see.

Is there somewhere else that Hauppauge squirrel's away its betas?
Yes there is actually Bob :)

There is also a forum for support with the Vista 32 and 64 bit drivers for the cards.

I never venture to their site anymore as I check the forums daily for tips, tricks and updates to their drivers etc :)

I hope this information helps.

VERY useful - well worth bookmarking - thanks muchly!

On the downside, though, the list of products not supported by Windows Vista betas is topped by, er, well, check out the list below…

WinTV products not yet supported under Vista

Product name
WinTV-NOVA-T 500 WinTV-NOVA-T Stick
WinTV-NEXUS-S
WinTV-HVR-930
WinTV-GO+
WinTV-Radio
I have one of these in my Media center PC (Shuttle SN21G5, 1GB RAM, GeForce 7300LE, Athlon XP 3200+, MCE 2005). It's pretty good, save a couple of things.

The design of the tuner is such that the tuning hardware is actually connected over USB, like Hauppauge's TV sticks. However, the PCI card has its own VIA USB controller. On leaving S3 standby, the device needs to renumerate, leaving the remote inoperative and the tuners unavailable for 10-20 seconds.

The remote is pretty good, although sometimes goes a bit mental for no apparent reason.

Dual tuning/recording with the T-500 is fairly reliable. Sometimes flakes out, but I blame MCE more than anything.
