The eagerly anticipated Apple Watch is almost here. Online pre-orders started today ahead of retail availability on April 24, with prices ranging from £299 to a staggering £13,500.
Described by the manufacturer as "the most personal product we’ve ever made," the Watch faces the unenviable challenge of being the first high-profile new product launch in the post-Steve Jobs era.
Initial reviews have been mixed, with Nilay Patel of The Verge suggesting that "it can do tiny bits of everything, instead of a few things extraordinarily well." Matt Warman of The Telegraph is keen to remind us that "version two or three will be even better," and while Bloomberg's Joshua Topolsky calls it "without question, the best smartwatch in the world," he adds that "it's not essential. Not yet."
Wait and see tends to be the general recommendation, but the iPhone and iPad were both met with similar scepticism at launch and, well, we know how those turned out.
Sales figures and customer response will be under close scrutiny in the weeks ahead, but now that pre-orders are open, let's start gauging interest by asking, quite simply: are you buying an Apple Watch? Let us know your reasons for or against using the comments facility below.
