$250,000 reward

In other news, Microsoft has announced a $250,000 reward for information that results in the conviction of the people behind the Conficker worm, aslso known as ‘Downadup'.

"As part of Microsoft's ongoing security efforts, we constantly look for ways to use a diverse set of tools and develop methodologies to protect our customers," said George Stathakopoulos, GM of the Trustworthy Computing Group at Microsoft.

"By combining our expertise with that of the broader community we can expand the boundaries of defense to better protect people worldwide."

More information about the worm can be found on Microsoft TechNet. Microsoft said people with information about the Conficker worm should contact their international law enforcement agencies.

a road in a different direction.. i shall remember that one
I'm 90% certain the stores will fail - Windows/Office/Xbox will all be a lot cheaper elsewhere so almost nobody will actually buy from them.

(Knowing some one who likes to visit Apple stores, I'm not sure I want to meet someone who likes to visit Microsoft stores. How much of an wannabe nerd would you have to be??)

Well I don't know, they do seem to be doing things quite differently post-Vista.
The thought occurs that the point may be to use a storefront presence to increase or maintain mindshare; they may not expect to actually move that much stuff through them - kind of like some Sony Centres used to be?
