Veni, vidi, Vevo

Music video site Vevo is setting its eyes on the UK market. According to a recent report on The Guardian, the company is expected to launch its UK service in the next few weeks.

Vevo, which launched in 2009, offers around 30,000 music videos from top three major record labels such as Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and EMI.

Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Vevo chief executive, Rio Caraeff, told that the site was "planning to launch in the UK imminently", with some sources indicating a launch could come as soon as this month."

Ranked as the number 1 online music video destination by comScore, Vevo reached 51 million unique visitors in January this year, according to the report. Vevo also captured the number 2 ranking for its online video content, following Google sites.

Right now Vevo is only available in the US and Canada, although some of its videos on YouTube are available around the world, depending on licensing rights.

Noting that it is quite risky being associated with user-generated on YouTube, Caraeff said Vevo is likely to arrive Middle East and north African markets in the coming months, with other European countries, Brazil and Australia following in the second half of 2011.
