If you haven't already jumped on the Blu-ray bandwagon, you'll be happy to hear that there's now another way to get your hands on the latest HD movie flicks - Apple's iTunes.
Having launched its digital movie store back in January '08, with the option to rent HD movies at a cost of $4.99, Apple has now announced that its HD titles are available to buy at a cost of $19.99.
Titles such as Quantum of Solace and Twilight will be among the first to become available, both available for slightly less than the asking price of the Blu-ray alternatives on Amazon.com. It's worth noting, however, that Apple's rentals are generally in the 720p format - not quite up to the 1080p standard delivered by a Blu-ray disc.
Still, it's another promising step for digital distribution, and mighty useful if you're in possession of an Apple TV unit. Furthermore, Apple's HD purchases are delivered in two formats - an HD file for watching on your PC or TV, and a smaller file suited for portable viewing on an iPod or iPhone. Handy.
